Microdermabrasion is a minimally invasive procedure performed in a dermatologist, medispa, or plastic surgeons office. This procedure gently exfoliates the top outermost dead layer of skin. A fine stream of crystals or a diamond tip is used to separate the dead skin cells from the skin underneath. There are varying levels of intensity in this procedure. The first time your technician will probably use a lighter touch. You may experience minor redness or irritation that will fade by the next day.
The great thing about microdermabrasion treatments is that there is virtually no downtime and these treatments are often used as a lunchtime procedure for working professionals or people who simply can’t afford to deal with the long recovery period that is typically involved with more invasive treatments.
Microdermabrasion can be combined with a light peel for even greater results.
Realistically you can expect a more glowing complexion, unclogging of pores, tightening of pores, and better absorption of skin care products.
If you continue your treatments and receive between 6-12 treatments you can expect more dramatic results which can be in the form of some reduction of fine lines and wrinkles.
I would highly recommend going to a board certified plastic surgeon and scheduling just one microdermabrasion treatment to gauge how your skin reacts and if this is the right procedure for you.
I personally receive a microdermabrasion treatment monthly and I think these treatments have now become a major staple in my skin care regimen.
